Excavation contractors in Spokane, WA

An excavation contractor brings the machine and the operator: a mini excavator, a full-size excavator, a backhoe, or a dozer, and someone who can cut a slope without opening a water line. People search for that help when a lot needs a house pad, a shop, a driveway cut, a drainage swale, or a hole they would rather not dig by hand.
Spokane Excavation Co does not operate that equipment. We are a referral service. The form on this site sends your request to up to three independent contractors who work around Spokane. They decide whether to respond, and they set the price.
What to have ready before you ask
- City or ZIP, and whether the machine can enter from a street driveway or only through a gate.
- What the hole is for, and a rough size: length, width, and depth if you know it.
- Whether the soil can stay on the lot or has to be hauled.
- Known private utilities, a septic tank, or a well.
- Timing that matters, such as a builder's start date. A date is a preference, not a promise from us.
What actually moves the price
Volume of soil, rock, access, and trucking. A backyard mini-excavator day and a basement with dump trucks are not the same trade. National guides such as HomeGuide's excavation cost overview discuss yard grading around $1,000 to $5,000 for a typical residential job, with smaller work lower and difficult ground higher. Treat that as a U.S. ballpark. It is not a Spokane average, and it is not a quote from this site.
Washington construction contractors register with Labor & Industries under RCW 18.27. That registration is theirs to hold. We do not claim a contractor registration, a bond, or an insurance policy for this website, because we do not perform the work. Confirm whoever contacts you.

Questions
Straight answers
What does an excavation contractor usually bring?
An operator and a machine sized to the hole: a mini excavator for a tight yard, a larger excavator or backhoe for a basement or a long trench, sometimes a dozer or skid steer for grading. The contractor should say which machine the quote assumes.
Do I need a licensed excavation contractor in Washington?
Washington requires construction contractors to register with the Department of Labor & Industries under RCW 18.27. Registration includes a bond and liability insurance. Spokane Excavation Co does not register contractors and does not check a registration for you. Look up anyone you might hire on Washington L&I's hiring-a-contractor page.
What changes the price the most?
How much soil moves, whether it leaves the site, how hard the ground is, and whether the machine has room to work. A quote that assumes soft soil and on-site spoils is a different job from one that includes rock breaking and trucking.
