Land clearing

Land clearing around Spokane

Illustrative local-style scene

Land clearing can mean brush only, trees and stumps, or a full scrape down to mineral soil. A forestry mulcher leaves chips in place. An excavator with a thumb or a stump bucket leaves holes and a debris pile. Spokane Excavation Co does not clear land. We send the request to up to three independent contractors, and they decide whether to bid.

Write the scope so two quotes can be compared

  • Acres or approximate dimensions, not just "the back field."
  • Brush, small trees, or large timber.
  • Stumps in or stumps out.
  • Debris mulched, piled, or hauled.
  • Whether you need the ground rough-graded afterward or only opened up.

Acreage north of town, around Deer Park and Mead, and lots outside Cheney, often means more vegetation than an in-town Spokane yard. Say which it is. Access for a lowboy or a truck matters as much as the trees.

Do not assume the pile can be burned

Outdoor burning is regulated by the Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, and fire districts can restrict it when fuels are dry. A quote that depends on burning is not the same as a quote that includes haul-off. Put the disposal method in the request so contractors do not guess.

National cost range

HomeGuide's national overview puts clearing a lightly wooded acre, trees and stumps included, roughly between $1,200 and $8,000. Heavy timber, steep ground, and rock cost more. That range is a U.S. estimate. It is not a Spokane County average and it is not a fee we charge. There is no fee for the referral.

After the vegetation is gone, the next trade is often grading or a building pad.

Questions

Straight answers

What should a land-clearing quote spell out?

Brush only, trees, stumps, or a scrape to bare soil. Also whether debris is mulched in place, piled, hauled, or burned. Those are different machines and different prices. A single line that says "clear the lot" is hard to compare.

Can the brush be burned?

Do not plan on it. The Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency regulates outdoor burning, and fire districts can stop it when conditions are dry. Haul-off is often the cleaner line to compare. We do not haul or burn anything.

How much does land clearing cost?

HomeGuide's national overview puts clearing a lightly wooded acre, including trees, brush, and stumps, in a wide range of about $1,200 to $8,000. Dense timber, steep ground, and rock cost more. That is a U.S. estimate, not a Spokane average, and it is not a price we set.
